2017 Half-Time Report
Our annual Half-Time Report was held on July 26, 2017 at the Hotel Fiesole in Skippack, PA. Melissa began the evening with some fun summer trivia. Prizes were awarded to guests with the correct answers.

Melissa reviewed what's been happening in the markets since the beginning of the year. She presented a historical view of the stock market to show how, since 1980, there have been more years that end with gains than there have been with losses. So far, 2017 is "up." Melissa discussed Bear Markets and Bull Runs. Currently, we are in a Bull Run and at very low volatility with the market expanding at a gradual rate. This steady growth indicates that there is no need to worry about a sudden correction, like we would expect with a quickly growing market. Melissa also touched on global investments and the importance of diversifying your portfolio.

We would like to thank Delaware Funds for sponsoring the event and the Hotel Fiesole for hosting us at their venue.

2016 Wine Tasting Dinner

The 2016 Wine Tasting Dinner was held on Wednesday, October 26th at the Indian Valley Country Club. This year's dinner featured wines from Washington and Oregon. West Coast sunshine was certainly present at the dinner, even with the October chill that evening.

20161026 211226

We started the night with a bright 2013 North by Northwest Horse Heaven Hills Reisling that held hints of lavender, peach, honey, and rose; a perfect taste of summer to close out the warm weather and welcome this next season. We moved progressively warmer in the wine families throughout the night: from white, to rosé, to red. We finished the night with a true invitation to winter through a rich 2013 North by Northwest Columbia Valley Sauvignon. This red promised cozy nights by the fire to come! Along with our wines, we were served a feast fit for kings prepared by Chef Scott Passaretti. Beautifully prepared and bursting with flavors, each of the dishes were a perfect complement to the wine they were paired with.

Although the wine and food were delicious, the real joy of the evening was spending time with our wonderful clients. This dinner is a thank you to you; for your loyalty, support, and friendship. We wouldn't be here without you!

We would also like to thank our sponsors for the evening: MFS Investment Management, ICON Investments, Oppenheimer Funds, JP Morgan Asset Management, and Steadfast Capital Markets Group. Special thanks to Vanguard for providing a raffle gift. We would like to thank Indian Valley Country Club and Capital Wines for the beautiful venue, delicious food, and fantastic wines.

2016 Half-Time Report

Our annual Half-Time Report was held on July 27, 2016 at the Hotel Fiesole in Skippack, PA. Melissa began the evening with some fun Olympic trivia as we await the start of the summer Olympic Games at the beginning of August. Prizes were awarded to guests with the correct answers.

Melissa reviewed what’s been happening in the markets since the beginning of the year. She talked about the low yield market we’re in right now, specifically in regards to low or negative yield bonds, which encourages investors to take on more risk. Gone are the days when you can expect a good return from safe investments, such as CDs. Melissa also pointed out some of the things that are happening now that are good for the economy – household net worth is the highest it’s ever been; people are buying homes because mortgage interest rates are down, which means their monthly payments will be lower; job creation since 2010 has been very good; and the stock market is hitting new highs.

We would like to thank J.P. Morgan Asset Management for sponsoring the event and the Hotel Fiesole for hosting us at their venue.

Identity Theft Seminar

On May 13, 2015, we hosted an Identity Theft Seminar at the Hotel Fiesole in Skippack. The presentation was given by Agent Christopher Brake of the United States Secret Service.  Agent Brake has worked with the Secret Service since 2006 and has been a case agent for numerous cases, all resulting in the successful prosecution of individuals involved in identity theft, bank fraud, credit card fraud, tax fraud, wire fraud, and mail fraud.  He discussed how to avoid identity theft and what to do if you are a victim.  He acknowledged the fact that a lot of the advice he provides is common sense, but important for protecting ourselves.  A few pointers that Agent Brake mentioned include:

  • Change your passwords for online accounts frequently and use strong passwords that are hard to guess
  • Do not give your card number or personal information to anyone calling on the telephone offering you prizes or gifts
  • Do not open files or click on links in e-mails sent by strangers

Agent Brake also stressed how important it is to get a free credit report several times a year.  This will alert you to any new loans or credit cards taken out in your name.  The website he recommended is www.annualcreditreport.com.

In addition to the great tips on identity theft, the night included good food and great company.  We hope that everyone left feeling more informed and aware of this ever-growing crime.  We would like to thank Delaware Investments for sponsoring the event and the Hotel Fiesole for hosting us at their venue.

As the leading advocate for female consumers, WomenCertified®, Inc. is pleased to announce that Melissa Motz has received the Women's Choice Award® for Financial Advisors based on rigorous research and 17 objective criteria, including a client survey to obtain feedback regarding service and practices.

The Women's Choice Award is the only recognition program for well-qualified advisors who are committed to the women's market and serving their female clients. Achieving this award reaffirms the commitment Melissa Motz has to extraordinary service in addressing the financial needs of women and their families.

"As a woman in the financial industry, I understand the unique circumstances that women face, such as caring for aging parents, education planning for children, and planning for life events like retirement or divorce. Our goal is your financial success."

WomenCertified, originator of the Women's Choice Award, was created by Delia Passi, the leading advocate for female consumers and former group publisher of Working Woman and Working Mother magazines. In partnership with WIFE.org (Women's Institute for Financial Education) co-founders Ginita Wall and Candace Bahr, Delia has created the Women's Choice Award for Financial Advisors in an effort to help women identify those advisors who are committed to providing quality service. The award allows this elite group of advisors to showcase their commitment to the women's market, while giving potential clients a starting point for entrusting their finances to an advisor.

Women currently control 51 percent of all wealth in the United States, and, according to the Federal Reserve, this number is projected to reach 66% by 2020.* As the financial industry wakes up to the fact that a great majority of the female population are seeking advisors they can trust, Passi, Bahr and Wall have already created the solution. This powerful, national initiative distinguishes advisors who support female consumers in their quest for financial education.

Cambridge Named 2014 Broker-Dealer of the Year

Cambridge honored six out of last eight years for this highly coveted honor
Investment Advisor magazine's annual poll of Rep-Advisors' judging their Broker-Dealer

Motz Wealth Management's broker-dealer, Cambridge Investment Research, Inc. (Cambridge) was named by Investment Advisor magazine as '2014 Broker-Dealer of the Year in Division IV' – the division representing independent broker-dealers with over 1,000 producing advisors. The honor is based on the results of the annual poll conducted by the magazine in June of this year. Cambridge has earned this honor six of the last eight years, and was previously honored in 2013, 2012, 2010, 2008, and 2007 as Broker-Dealer of the Year in Division IV and in 2003 for Division III.

"Being named Broker-Dealer of the Year is important to us because it means hundreds of our advisors felt strongly enough about Cambridge to take the time and engage in this poll," said Eric Schwartz, Cambridge Chairman and CEO. "We are in the business of serving our advisors and the greatest reward in the service business is being complimented about your service and valued for your services. For this we are most appreciative and greatly humbled."

"Service, service, service – our service for our advisors is always foremost in our minds and actions," said Amy Webber, Cambridge President. "The Broker-Dealer of the Year honor is an honor and a measure of success we consider along with our own annual satisfaction survey and other meaningful industry polls. We continually raise our very high standards for service and we are thrilled we continue to earn high marks from our advisors."

Cambridge's honor is based on receiving high marks in all categories, and a composite score that was highest among its peers. Several thousand credentialed voters – representatives of independent broker-dealers – cast ballots, and those broker-dealers that gained the highest composite scores were awarded the honors in four different divisions based on their number of producing rep-advisors. The winning broker-dealers are profiled in Investment Advisor's September 2014 issue and online via ThinkAdvisor.

"We thank each and every advisor in our Cambridge family for this honor and vote of confidence. Each vote is important and tells us that we are giving independent advisors the commitment they deserve, and the leadership they need for their success as independent business owners," said Schwartz.

About Broker-Dealer of the Year
According to ThinkAdvisor.com, The rules for Investment Advisor's Broker-Dealers of the Year readers' poll remained the same in their 24th annual contest. Only producing representatives of the independent broker-dealers that appeared in their June 2014 Broker-Dealer Reference Guide were eligible to vote in online balloting on ThinkAdvisor.com from June 1, 2014 through July 1, 2014. Each voter was vetted by Investment Advisor editorial staff to ensure compliance with the "one person, one vote" principle and that each voter was, in fact, registered with FINRA as an independent contractor registered representative of the broker-dealer for which they voted. Those BDs that received the highest average rating from their own reps were deemed Broker-Dealers of the Year in four different divisions based on the number of reps. This ensured the BDs in each division competed against similar-sized rivals.

2014 Half-Time Report

Our annual Half-Time Report was held on July 30, 2014 at the Hotel Fiesole in Skippack, PA. Melissa began the evening with some fun World Cup and Tour de France trivia. Prizes were awarded to guests with the correct answers.

Melissa presented an economic update, covering topics such as interest rates and equities, consumer finances, residential and commercial real estate, and employment. Melissa reminded us to keep a longer term perspective, and pointed out that despite average intra-year drops of 14.4%, annual returns have been positive in 26 out of the last 34 years.*  Melissa expects that we will have more years of nice returns in the stock market because of all the positive things happening right now – interest rates are low, companies are profitable, and inflation rates are low.

We also welcomed special guest Marshall Birkins from Franklin Square Capital Partners who spoke about strategies designed to protect assets in a rising interest rate environment.

We would like to thank Franklin Square Capital Partners for sponsoring the event and the Hotel Fiesole for hosting us at their venue.

Motz Wealth Management is pleased to announce that Melissa Motz, CPA, CFP®, MS, and the President and Founder of Motz Wealth Management, was named one of the recipients of the 2013 Philadelphia Five Star Wealth Manager award. The award winners appeared in a special section in the November 2013 issue of Philadelphia magazine.

Five Star Professional partnered with Philadelphia magazine to find wealth managers who satisfy 10 objective eligibility and evaluation criteria that are associated with wealth managers who provide quality services to their clients. Fewer than four percent of the 27,800 wealth managers in the Philadelphia area were selected.

Award candidates were identified by one of three sources: firm nomination, peer nomination or pre-qualification. Five Star Professional relied on internal and external research data, including a survey to more than 15,000 registered financial services professionals in the Philadelphia area.
Survey recipients were asked to nominate wealth managers they felt were worthy of consideration for the Five Star Wealth Manager award. Each wealth manager was reviewed for disciplinary actions, customer complaints and regulatory actions as reported by regulatory agencies.

Please join us in congratulating Melissa on this excellent achievement!

Forecast 2014: Past & Present

On January 29, 2014, Melissa Motz presented the Forecast 2014: Past & Present at the Hotel Fiesole in Skippack, PA.  Melissa began the evening with some fun Valentine's Day trivia.  Prizes were awarded to guests with the correct answers.

Melissa reviewed where we've been, where we are now, and where we may be going.  Looking back on 2013, we saw that the more risk you had in your portfolio, the more money you made.  Also in 2013, home construction was at its highest level in almost six years.  Mortgage rates have increased, but are still low compared to historical averages.  More recently, the Federal Reserve announced tapering and is vowing to keep interest rates unchanged until the unemployment rate is below 6.5%.  Some things to watch in 2014 include the Federal Reserve exit, politics (2014 is an election year), and geopolitical tension.  Melissa ended the evening with a final thought:  Any kindness given will always be remembered.

We would like to thank John Napoleone from Realty Capital Securities for sponsoring the event and the Hotel Fiesole for hosting us at their venue.

Forecast 2013: Past & Present

On February 21, 2013, Melissa Motz presented the Forecast 2013: Past & Present at the Hotel Fiesole in Skippack, PA.  Melissa began the evening with some fun Westminster Kennel Club dog trivia.  Prizes were awarded to guests with the correct answers.

The objective of the update was to review where we've been, where we are now, and where we may be going. Melissa reviewed the big stories of 2012, some of the things the "pros" predicted for 2012, and the actual performance for the year.  The 2012 Word of the Year was "Uncertainty," as
political turmoil dominated market headlines during the year.  The S&P 500 (Domestic Stocks) had a 16% increase for the year.  While this may look promising for investors, Melissa pointed out that 90% of these earnings came from 10 companies. The housing market finally appears to be stabilizing
and consumer confidence was at its highest level at the end of 2012 since before the last recession, but business investment had slowed due to the uncertainty of taxes in 2013.  Items to watch for in 2013 include Political action and whether the two parties will work together to find a way to stop our debt from rising to catastrophic levels; Geopolitical risks and the growing level of risk to the energy supply in the Middle East and North Africa; and "on-shoring" – the return of jobs to North America that had been previously shipped overseas.  Manufacturing could be less expensive in America than in China after you factor in the costs of transportation and increasing wages in China.  Melissa ended the evening with the thought that while the world may be filled with uncertainty, if we look back at our history, we have endured much more difficult times yet have persevered and continued to improve.

We would like to thank David Fiorita from Delaware Investments for sponsoring the event and the Hotel Fiesole for hosting us at their venue.
